Each summer, the banks of the Seine are transformed into an unmissable Paris event - the Paris Plages. Tonnes of sand and hundreds of deck chairs, beach umbrellas, hammocks and palm trees combine to create the coolest pop up this side of Panama.

2. Summer Stage, New York

3. Fringe Festival, Edinburgh

7. Sziget Festival, Budapest

8. Dance Valley, Amsterdam

9. Dragon Boat Festival, Stockholm
Stockholm has to be one of the prettiest cities on Earth, but in late August there's another reason to visit - Drakbatsfestival, the Dragon Boat Festival. A true Viking event celebrating the city's rich heritage, Drakbatsfestival includes boat racing, a carnival procession and a bevy of authentic Viking costumes.

10. Notting Hill Carnival, London
While Notting Hill may have been made famous by that movie, it's also been home to the Notting Hill Carnival every August Bank Holiday since 1966. The largest festival of its kind in Europe, the streets come alive with over 20 miles of vibrant costumes, Caribbean food stalls and the buzz of over 1 million revellers.
